Pazo de Vieite

The monks of the Monastery of San Clodio, in the 11th century owned extensive properties, most of them dedicated to the cultivation of the vine, building in the 17th century the Priory of Vieite (former Villa Benedicto) also surrounded by vines brought from the valley of the Rhin.

Last century the lawyer Lorenzo Rolando de Francisco, acquired the Priory of Vieite with its vineyards, planting vines mainly of the Treixadura variety. Nearby the Priorato, the Pazo de Vieite, S.L. winery opened in 2006. consisting of high technology.

The philosophy of Pazo de Vieite wineries is to work and carefully take care of their 7 hectares of their own vineyards, since this is the most important factor in producing quality wines. The predominant grape is the Treixadura variety, although Godello, Albariño, Loureira and Torrontés are also grown.

The vineyards are located on hillside and terraces sheltered from the north, at an altitude of between 100 and 200 meters, where the ripening of the grapes is excellent. The soils are of granite origin, generally acidic and with a sandy-loam texture.

The conduits are trellised, the maximum load per vine is controlled and the bunches are selected both at harvest and upon entering the winery, all to achieve good ventilation, ripening and health of the grapes.

Soil, climate and native varieties make Ribeiro an ideal ecosystem for the production of excellent white wines, unique and not reproducible in any other part of the world.
